Our wildlife experiences and nature-based activities are of course abundant here in our ancient forest and wild river valley. Our countryside holds many treasures and we have a wide range of activities and experiences ideal for exploring and learning about our natural world.
We have foraging and bushcraft experiences, wildlife safaris and birdsong walks, birds of prey and falconry experiences and much much more. They are all wonderful experiences ideal for a family or group, great for photographers, kids and as a gift experience. Why not join naturalist, broadcaster and author Ed Drewitt for a dawn chorus experience or wildlife safari? They are a great way to find out more about all that this area has to offer, learn to identify the signs of wildlife and the wonderful range we have here. Falconry experiences offer the unique opportunity to get up close to some incredible birds of prey including owls and hawks. Take part in handling, feeding and flying experiences perfect for all ages and learn about these stunning birds in a beautiful location.

Meeting at 9.30am you will start with a short talk on foraging with tea and coffee before departing at 10am for a walk from the hotel. At this time of year we would expect to find some mushrooms on the forage. You will return to the hotel for 1pm for a three course lunch.

Just as the sun rises across the forest, thousands of male birds wake up and sing together as the dawn chorus, defending their nest and mate. An important daily ritual for birds, this chorus is a delight for us to hear and good for our wellbeing; it is a special spring event for anyone to witness.

Our foraging trips are very popular. The crop depends on season and ranges from a wide variety of edible mushrooms, wild garlic and sorrel, bitter cress, pennywort, wimberries, edible flowers and wild strawberries.

Liz Knight has spent the last 10 years gathering and playing with wild food. Her courses are designed to open you eyes to how the commonest of weeds can be transformed into the most exciting, nutritious and sustainable of foods.
Liz will take you for a walk on the hotel grounds to collect foraged goodies. Back at the hotel Liz will show you how to make delicious foraged recipes to take away.
