Many of the footpaths in the Forest of Dean are flat, well laid and suitable for those with disabilities and in wheelchairs. Take a look at our 12 Easy Walks for some simple circular walks which are ideal for those looking for short walks on well laid paths. Behind The Speech House Hotel, the Speech House Woods containing Spruce Ride, Speech House Lake and going down to Mallards Pike with its beautiful lake is great, as well as the neighbouring Cyril Hart Arboretum. Cannop Ponds, Symonds Yat Rock and many other beauty spots, Forestry England visitor centres and footpaths are also great spots for those looking for wide, flat paths.
If you have limited mobility, you might like to consider hiring an off-road mobility scooter whilst in the area to allow you to explore the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley at your leisure and to be able to join friends and family on some of our great walks without missing out.
'The Tramper' is an all-terrain mobility scooter to help people with limited mobility access the outdoors and available in the Forest of Dean as part of the Walking with Wheels project. You can currently hire one at two key locations, both of which have one Tramper:
Both are provided through Countryside Mobility and there is more information on the routes available and how to book a tramper on their website. This video is also helpful:
