Having an adventure or trying something new isn't hard here in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Our dramatic landscapes are a natural outdoor playground, and we have adventure activities galore, from kayaking to deep-level caving, high ropes to off-road driving. No matter what type of adventure you would like to go on, there are a wide range of activities to give all ages a thrill!
Can you survive the wild? Learn the skill of bushcraft, where you can gain valuable survival techniques and how to thrive in the great outdoors; bushcraft skills include firecraft, tracking, hunting, fishing, shelter building, and foraging.
Find your inner Tarzan. With over 20 million trees in the Forest of Dean, Go Ape's high ropes experience is set in the perfect location. Fuel an appetite for adventure as you climb, swing, and fly your way around the high ropes course at Mallards Pike. Or, for smaller monkeys, there is also a purpose-designed course at Beechenhurst.
Discover the wonder of the under. Deep-level caving experiences allow you to explore beyond the public pathways, visiting labyrinthine workings deep underground. There are several places to go underground in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, Clearwell Caves and Hopewell Colliery are two of our favourites. If you would prefer adventure caving Borderlands Outdoor and Clearwell Caves can offer you experiences for beginners or more advanced cave systems for those looking to build on their skills.
Got a head for heights? Why not try rock climbing and abseiling on the cliffs of the Wye Valley? They are both challenging but very rewarding experiences, especially with the incredible views at the end to greet you at the top! Try it with one of the expert local climbing guides in the area; Borderlands Outdoor, Inspire2Adventure and Forest Adventure offer rock climbing, abseiling, caving and more. The perfect activities for an exciting day in the great outdoors!
Head off-road. Get behind the wheel for some adrenaline-packed adventure, and head off-road driving in a quarry at Whitecliff Off Road Driving Centre’s purpose-built 40 acre off-road site. With its variety of surfaces, it is deemed one of the best off-road sites in the UK.
