While tweens and teens can be a little harder to please, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is full of activities and experiences that will ensure that your time here into an enjoyable and memorable trip for family members of all ages!
For those with a keen sense of adventure, the area is full of adrenaline-inducing activities for all abilities! If you’re not afraid to take on the heights, test your nerve with a high ropes experience, a rock climbing session or an abseiling session! Or, if heights are not your thing, head in the opposite direction with an underground caving adventure. For those who are most at home by the water, why not take the opportunity to canoe or paddleboard along the River Wye? Or, for those who enjoy a bit of healthy family competition, battle it out with a game of laser tag or axe throwing!
If scaling the heights of the Forest of Dean doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, perhaps you would prefer to get creative? Learn the basics of pottery, have a go at making your own mosaic, try your hand at floristry, or get to grips with location-based photography! Inspire budding artists with a walk along the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail, or, if your family is full of foodies, a cookery experience is the perfect way to get creative, with a delicious reward for your effort at the end!
Alternatively, if history and heritage pique your interest, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is the perfect place to head back in time. Follow in the footsteps of a Freeminer with an underground mine tour or an exploration through Clearwell Caves, delve into the area’s history at the Dean Heritage Centre, or immerse yourself in over 1000 years of architecture at Gloucester Cathedral. To combine your interest in history with getting out among the trees, why not head out on a guided bike tour of the Forest to learn all about its history?
Or, if you’re all keen for a break that offers complete mindfulness and relaxation, why not take part in some of our wellbeing activities? Soak up the benefits of nature with a forest bathing experience, participate in a yoga class under the trees, or discover the area’s wildlife with a birdsong walk. If you’d like to experience the benefits of spending time with animals, what about heading out for a walk with a llama, or getting up close and personal with a bird of prey? Then, once you’ve achieved a true state of relaxation, why not enjoy an afternoon tea to top it all off?
