About Us
Skenfrith sits on the Welsh (south) bank of the River Monnow, which is the historical boundary with England.
Set in the middle of the village is Skenfrith Castle. Skenfrith Castle is the only low-lying fortress of the three castles of Skenfrith, Grosmont and White Castle, now known as the castles of the Trilateral. The castle was substantially rebuilt by Hubert de Burgh between 1219 and 1223 but by 1538 was abandoned.
And Dr Who fans will already know that Skenfrith was used as the location for the fictional village of "Upper Leadworth" in the Doctor Who episode Amy's Choice broadcast on May 22nd 2010. See if you can spot the various locations used.
Just a hundred yards from the castle stands St Bridget's Church, first mentioned in 1207 and then reconstructed and enlarged in the 14th century.
The Bell at Skenfrith is a very popular hotel and restaurant..
