About Us

Twelfth century Cistercians recognised the beauty of the Wye Valley when they founded Tintern Abbey here in 1131 only for Henry VIII to destroy it 400 years later, and later become a must-see on the Wye Tour. It is now one of the most iconic ruins in Britain.

A surprising amount of Tintern's industrial and monastic heritage remains, if you look beyond the beautiful wooded valley setting. There is a working water wheel at Abbey Mill Craft Centre, an ancient vineyard at Parva Farm has been replanted and produces award-winning wines and a former railway station is now a tearoom.

Tintern is an ideal starting point for the many fine walks in the area, including the steep route up to The Devil's Pulpit giving vast views of the Wye Valley.
