Mother's Day is a time to spend some quality time together with your mum and show them just how much you care. It's perfectly timed at the beginning of spring with daffodil walks and cream teas, plus there are special meals, crafty activities and lots of lovely days out to choose from.
Here are a few of our ideas for you to treat your mum this Mother's Day in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley:
Quintessentially British, decadent and sumptuous, afternoon tea is no longer only the preserve of the rich! You can find many restaurants, hotels, cafes and tea rooms providing afternoon tea these days and it is such a fun and delicious treat with sandwiches, tea and cakes, plus there's Prosecco afternoon tea, seasonal and themed afternoon teas to add variety.
There are many wonderful locations to enjoy an afternoon tea in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, from The Speech House Hotel to The Tudor Farmhouse. And if you'd like to take mum and learn how to make one yourself why not try Harts Barn Cookery School's Afternoon Tea Experience. Or for something a little different how about a Llama Trekking Experience with Afternoon Tea from Briery Hill Llamas or book a cream tea and travel on a heritage steam train through the Forest with the Dean Forest Railway. There's even a Crafternoon Tea Experience with Rachel Shilston combining a fun mosaic making activity with a delicious cream tea in her inviting studio.
Don't worry if your mum is vegan, vegetarian or gluten free because you'll find all dietary requirements catered for, just check with the provider in advance.
We have a wide range of high street shops in our towns and villages to explore, as well as arts and crafts venues, farm shops and delis. From foodie hampers to jewellery, flowers to mosaics there is something for every mum here. You’ll also find that many of our shops and local businesses have online shops and you can browse our huge online gift guide here for inspiration. With gift vouchers and experience days, classes and gift sets to choose from you’re sure to find something truly unique here and even if you can't see mum on Mother's Day you can show her you care by getting something local sent directly to her.
These fabulous Mother's Day gift hampers from Forest Deli combine the best of our local food and drink with a lovely hamper, wooden trug, heart shaped wicker basket or hand wrapped tray. They look gorgeous and will go down a treat especially with mothers you're not able to see but still want to treat!
Take a look at our What's On for all our special one-off Mother's Day events. This year there's an Evening Steam Train Fish & Chip Supper, Foraging & Cooking at The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel, several Afternoon Teas for Mother's Day, Mums Go Free at the Dean Heritage Centre, the Dymock Daffodil Weekend & Spring Fayre, a Mother's Day Mosaic Crafternoon Experience, a Forage and Feast at Harts Barn Cookery School Experience and an all day independent market showcasing women-owned art & craft businesses at Taurus Crafts. See all our Mother's Day events here.
Plus there are many lovely walks to take together, some with pubs at the end and plenty of wonderful attractions for a day out together, from Puzzlewood to Tintern Abbey or how about a butterfly zoo or castle?
Dining out is always a special treat, perhaps even more so in 2022 since we haven't been able to do it for the last two Mother's Days! Choose from one of our restaurants, pubs or cafes for a meal out together.
We have arts and crafts galore perfect for creating a unique gift or taking mum along for a crafty experience for you both. We have mosaic making, photography, pottery, ring making, cookery and more. See all of our arts and crafts activities here.
